Overview

Communications Services manages access to the UCSB 800MHz radio frequencies. Two-way radios are an important part of the campus's life safety services. To avoid interference with those services, departments must consult with Communications Services before purchasing any two-way radios or bringing them onto campus for use.

Communications Services also processes, reviews, and maintains all Federal Communications Commission licenses for the use of campus two-way radios, in accordance with UC Office of the President policies and procedures. For information about FCC licenses, contact Communications Services.

NOTE: UCSB departments using two-way radio systems other than the campus 800 MHz system need to be aware of the FCC Narrowbanding Mandate that went into effect January 1, 2013.
